The Ford Model T Story

I will build a motorcar for the great multitude. It will be large enough for the family, but small enough for the individual to run and care for. It will be constructed of the best materials, by the best men to be hired after the simplest designs that modern engineering can devise. But it will be so low in price that no man making a good salary will be unable to own one - and enjoy with his family the blessings of hours of pleasure in God's open spaces.
HENRY FORD 1907.

The Ford model T was probably the most significant car to be produced, not because of it's design or performance, but because of it's method of construction. This was of course "mass production".
Produced mainly in the Highland Park factory in Detroit, over 15 million were sold between 1908 and 1929 when Henry Ford finally shut down the line. However the first Ford factory outside the United States was set up here in England at Trafford Park, just outside Manchester
England. By coincidence. Trafford Park is just 25 miles or so from Congleton where we have an example if this significantly historic model

At Burns Garages in Congleton in Cheshire we are fortunate to have a Model T which was built at Trafford Park in 1924 and it is largely in it's original condition although at the moment it is in need of some restoration, particularly to the interior.
It does run although not very well at the moment and the directors of Burns are looking forward to finding more time to supervise the restoration of this important car to it's orrigional condition and specification.

All this will take place in our workshops in Congleton Cheshire.

When the directors can master the intricacies of the web, we will publish a picture of it. In the meantime please visit our main site to find out more about us.
